Minerva was born in a farm home several miles east of Buck Creek (rural Sumner) on June 13, 1932. She was the daughter of Ernest and Minnie (Schedtler) Nuss. She was raised in Buck Creek, Iowa and attended Sumner High School, graduating in 1950. Minerva graduated from Wartburg in 1953 and went on to teach in Grundy Center. There she met Kenneth Brown and they were united in marriage on June 18, 1954, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Buck Creek. They started their married life in Primghar/Paullina area before settling in Dysart. Minerva was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was involved as an organist, choir member, Sunday School teacher, and part of Bible study groups. Music was an important part of her life and she instilled this love in her children and countless piano students as she taught piano lessons for 26 years in Dysart. Minerva returned to college (UNI) to obtain a BA in education. She then worked at Hawkeye Community College helping adult students obtain their GED. She was recognized for her service by receiving the President’s Award in 1999. Minerva retired in 2001. She loved attending family events, reading, being involved in church activities, and pursuing her love of music by attending concerts and continuing as an organist. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
