JoAnn Mae Kopriva was born on March 24, 1941, in Waterloo, the daughter of Joseph Sr. and Helen (Zmolek) Kopriva. JoAnn grew up in Traer and attended Perry #6 Country School through the 8th grade and then graduated from Traer High School in 1959. She worked as a babysitter, Vokoun Motors Company, and Sunrise Hill Nursing Home. JoAnn was very outgoing and enjoyed going to activities with her cousin, Marilyn, going on trips through the bank, watching movies and tv, babysitting her nieces and nephews, and going to daily Mass. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church for many years. JoAnn died at the age of 82 on August 16, 2023, at MercyOne Hospital in Waterloo. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, LeRoy, and his wife, Bernadine, and John; a sister, Patricia Hulme; 2 nephews, Steven Kopriva and Joey Kopriva; a niece, Christy Kopriva; 2 sisters-in-law, Janice Kopriva and Leta Kopriva; and a brother-in-law, Gordy Staveley. JoAnn is survived by 2 brothers, Joe and Larry Kopriva; 2 sisters, Verna Staveley and Bev (Gene) Rund; a brother-in-law, Ronald Hulme; and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at 10:30 AM, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer. The visitation will be on Monday, August 21, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, at Overton Funeral Home in Traer. There will be a Rosary Service at 3:30 PM, on Monday, prior to the visitation at Overton Funeral Home. JoAnn will be buried in the St. Paul Catholic Church Cemetery.
