Evelyn Marie McLaren

Evelyn Marie (Boyenga) McLaren passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Unity Point Hospital in Waterloo, IA. She was 94 years old. She was born on March 3, 1930, to John and Alberta (Rozevink) Boyenga in Ackley, IA. She graduated from Hampton High School in 1947. On April 23, 1948, she married Robert McLaren in Hampton, IA. The couple settled in Dysart, Iowa where they raised six children. 

Evelyn’s career and ministry was in being a godly wife, wonderful mother, and excellent homemaker. She loved kids and spent her life taking care of her family. When the kids were grown, she worked in the office at Robert's chiropractic practice. For over fifty years she was a member of Women’s Club, Home Study, and evening and afternoon bridge clubs. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, and crocheting. 

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband in January 2024; her parents; brothers, Robert, Earl, and Howard Boyenga; sisters, Helen Davenport, Alice Wille, and Donna Menning; son, Michael McLaren; granddaughter, Kelley McLaren; and grandson, Kaylan McLaren.

Evelyn is survived by her five children, Tim (Mary) McLaren of Marion, IA, Steve McLaren of Ft Lauderdale, FL, Diane (Mark) Huisenga of Arlington, VA, Jeff McLaren of Waterloo, IA, and Tom (Karen) McLaren of Germantown Hills, IL; ten grandchildren, Chris and Nick McLaren, Heather Hart, Meghan and Nathan Huisenga, Kyle and Noah McLaren, Matt and Stephanie Jacobsen and Allison McLaren; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

The service for Evelyn will be held, Monday, September 16, 2024, at 11:30am at River’s Edge Christian Church, 1247 Cedar Bend, Waterloo, IA, with burial at the Dysart Cemetery, Dysart, IA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
