Darlene W. Monroe, 92, of Traer and formerly of Dysart, passed away on April 6, 2024. The funeral will be on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 10:30 AM, at Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart. The burial will follow in Dysart Cemetery. The visitation will be on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, at Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart.
Darlene was born on the family farm near Clutier, on May 22, 1931, to Edward and Mabel (Lorenzen) Norden. She attended country school and graduated from Dysart High School in 1949. Following her graduation, she attended State Teacher’s College and taught in country school for one year. On June 5, 1951, she was united in marriage to Marvin Monroe. The couple had 5 children and they lived on the family farm south of Dysart. Darlene worked part-time in the Dysart post office for 22 years, and enjoyed being a farmwife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved quilting, sewing, knitting, golfing, playing cards, and visiting with her many friends.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Marvin; 2 sons, Mark (Mary) Monroe of Dysart and Scott (Sandy) Monroe of Clutier; 2 daughters, Pat (Richard) Arp and Susan (Arlo) Wieck both of Dysart; 10 grandchildren, Ryan (Nicole) Karr, Chad Karr, Sarah (Craig) Clark, Leah (Victor) Rohrbach, Micah (Mackenzie) Monroe, Ross (Ashley) Monroe, Rachele (Derrick) Randall, Reid (Natalie) Monroe, Heidi Wieck, and Kyle Wieck; 16 great grandchildren, Tyler and Kaylee Karr, Mallory, Anderson, and Layla Karr, Molly and Sadie Clark, Gavin and Alayna Rohrbach, Cora, Elise, Cain, and Nellie Monroe, Quinn, Landon, and Riley Randall, and a baby due in May; and 2 step grandchildren, Christopher and Amanda Arp. She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant daughter, Marsha; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dale and Ann Monroe. Please direct memorials to Zion Lutheran Church.
